Indie Game: The Movie - Review.

I don’t know how many times I’ve heard it. But every time I do, a small part of my soul dies. That stupid, stupid sentence that those with no knowledge of the games industry say during a conversation about games.
It must be so fun making games, all you do is play games all day”. It makes my fist tremble in anger just typing it.
Working in the games industry can be a very hard career, the roles are brutally competitive, the work is tedious and stressful and the hours are long….horrendously long.
I know this because of my desire to work in the games industry but I never knew just how difficult life could be for those who don’t work for a big company, but instead decide to go independent.

Indie Game: The Movie gives you a glimpse into the lives of developers Edmund McMillen and Tommy Refenes, creators of Super Meat Boy, Phil Fish, creator of FEZ and Jonathan Blow, creator of Braid.

If you have any interest in games development as a career than this movie is a must watch, it really opens your eyes to the crazy work ethic that is needed to create a successful title.

Even if you don’t want to work in the industry, you will still find this hugely interesting, what you see is basically the cold, hard and brutal reality of how much you have to sacrifice in order to make a creative dream become reality.

The Film is brilliantly made, taking you on a journey with the creators as they talk about the physical and mental impacts of their labour of love. It really gives you an intimate look into the highs and (many) lows into the life of the indie developer.

Available on iTunes, Steam or direct download from the website.
